Description
Branch House is a single-storey residence designed and built by designer-maker Patrick Thomas King on a garden plot for his own occupation. Taking its name from the foliage flanking its sides and its proximity to the Marlow branch line, a single-track railway with only one small train passing per hour, the architecture is inspired by bird hides, Peter Aldington, and the soft Brutalism of Alison and Peter Smithson's Upper Lawn Pavilion. The result is a modest yet stylish design with soft divisions of space, high ceilings and expertly crafted timber.
The accommodation comprises a fully equipped kitchen (please note, without a dishwasher), a study, a guest bedroom, a walk-in wardrobe and dressing area, a large shower room, a wood-burning stove, and a large, open, multi-functional space that can be gently separated by linen curtains. Additionally, there is an outdoor shower. The drop-down single guest bed doubles as a sofa, though there are only a few cushions and it cannot be fully considered a sofa yet. Nonetheless, it is a comfortable bed, and the owner frequently sleeps on it, enjoying the cozy ambiance provided by the wood-burning stove relaxing in the evening and savoring morning tea.
The heating in Branch House is exclusively provided by the wood-burning stove with firewood is provided, some experience with wood stoves may be helpful.
Please be aware that the accommodation, such as the kitchen worktop, is a little oversized due to the owner's height, but most guests should still find it perfectly comfortable. Additionally, please note that the garden is not yet fully completed.
